As a mom of 9-year-olds, we aren’t at the social m As a mom of 9-year-olds, we aren’t at the social media stage quite yet—but I know it’ll be here before we know it! 🥹 I recently attended @instagram’s Screen Smart event and learned so much about Instagram Teen Accounts and the built-in protections designed specifically for teens. Here are a few things I think every parent should know: ✨ Teen Accounts automatically come with built-in protections that limit who can contact teens and the content they can see. ✨ Teens are placed into age-appropriate settings across areas like Recommendations, Feed, Stories, comments and DMs. ✨ Teens under 16 need a parent’s permission to make certain settings less strict. ✨ Parents can use supervision tools through Family Center to better understand and help manage their teen’s experience. ✨ These protections are built in automatically, so teens start with more restrictive settings from the beginning. I’m so glad I’m learning about these tools now so I can feel more prepared when we eventually enter that stage with our kids!
