When I first heard about robot vacuums, I remember thinking: “Is it really that hard to vacuum your home?” This was clearly before I had a decent sized home, two kids that love to make messes, and a crazy schedule! Now?! I can’t get enough of my robot vacuum and I don’t know how I ever lived without it!
Today, I want to share our real-life experience having a robot vacuum.
Why We Got a Robot Vacuum
I am the first to admit that I do love a clean and organized home, and so does my husband. But…our home can definitely get messy at times with two young kids, two pets, and two parents that work. One thing I cannot stand though is dirty floors. The feeling of dirt, crumbs, sand, dust, pet hair, or anything makes my skin crawl. We don’t even wear shoes in our home but still, an active home can get messy! I could not keep up, I felt like I was spending an hour each day vacuuming. I started researching robot vacuums and was convinced this would take care of our floors…I was right! However, the first robot vacuum we bought was a doozy…my fault for not doing enough research! We purchased our second one after a lot of research and we LOVE it!
Which Robot Vacuum We Have
This time, we went with the ECOVACS DEEBOT X1 PLUS! The reviews speak for themselves and I’m very happy with our selection! My kiddos really enjoy watching it clean, they even decided it needed a name…Princess Teo. Don’t ask why, they’re five. Haha!
What I Love About Our Robot Vacuum
- Well obviously, it vacuums your floors without you really doing anything! It’s a total lifesaver for a busy family of 6 (two parents, two kiddos AND two pets of course!)
- The X1 PLUS does a great job avoiding clutterso we don’t have to worry about picking up before it can run thanks to the DEEBOT’s AIVI (artificial intelligence and visual interpretation) technology.
- But not only does it vacuum, it really vacuums…the suction isincredibly strong. It amazes me how much it pulls up and what is on our floors (shriek!)! You can also change the level of suction…three different levels so you can really customize your clean!
- Most of our home is hardwood so not only does our robot vacuum pick up everything, it also mops! I mean it when I say that I really don’t have to do anything to our floors. It automatically avoids carpet and rugs when mopping so you don’t have to worry about that!
- It’s Wi-Fi enabled! It’scontrolled entirely by the ECOVACS app on our phones. Easy peasy!
- Our old robot was very loud and we couldn’t run it while we were home because of this!Not this one, it’s very quiet! We hardly even notice it unless it’s directly next to us.
- One of the first tasks the robot did was mapping our house…it moved across every inch of our floors detecting walls, rugs, furniture, etc.The floor mapping enables it to clean more efficiently, not damage anything in your home, as well designating areas of your home to be cleaned or not.
- We have 2 floors in our home and the robot has stair detection! I was watching it closely the first time because I was worried about it falling down the stairs, it never has!
- Our robot can usually finish an entire floor before needing to be charged! The long battery life is a major perk!
- However, if our robot does need to charge, it will automatically go back to its docking station. I love the auto-recharge function!
- Our first robot vacuum was constantly beeping to be emptied…it wouldn’t even work until it was emptied. Thankfully, this DEEBOT is self-emptying! It empties dirt and debris into the dust bag, and you don’t need to worry about replacing it for 60 days!
- The dust bag is also fully sealed! You don’t have to worry about dust getting out! It also blocks 99% of particles, keeping the air fresh and clean!
- Setup was easy!I’ll be honest, instruction manuals and setting things up usually stresses me out so I have my husband do it. Not this time, it was a piece of cake!
What I Wish It Did
My only complaint, well really wish is I wish it cleaned the rest of the house for us…bathrooms, kitchen, windows. Haha! A girl can dream, right? 😉
What a Great Investment for Our Family
I told my husband that sometimes I feel like we’re the Jetsons and we have our own Rosie to clean for us! This little robot is a complete time saver for me (and sanity too)! It allows me to focus on other things at home which I am so grateful for! The ECOVACS DEEBOT X1 PLUS is one of my very favorite investments!

This looks promising! We’ve been talking about getting a robot vacuum, but we couldn’t find one that we felt could do the job.
I have been wanting one of these. I am glad to see it’s worth it. We have cats and fur everywhere so I know it would come in handy.
While I want a robo vac, I worry about things on the floor that might get in the way. My boys tend to leave things like shoes and clothes everywhere.
It has technology that knows to avoid things on the floor. Amazing, right?
I’m so jealous you have one that mops as well! My house is all tile, so that would be great. We have a cheaper version that only vacuums and with kids and a long-hair cat, it really helps keep the house clean!

I have owned robot vacuums in the past and had minimal success. They far too often would get stuck or experience some other type of problem. I stopped using them, but maybe I just need a better brand?
I love having my robot vacuum. I think it’s great for certain days, especially when you’re really busy. You can just turn it on and let it do all the work.

I’d love to have one but my youngest is too messy still. Maybe one day I can get one since I have vinyl plank flooring.
I had a few and was never happy with it. I am honestly one of those people that finds vacuuming satisfying and love to do it myself na I feel I do a beurre job, I may to try Roomba as it may work better.

I’ve thought about getting a robot vacuum but still on the fence about it. I’m scared it would fall down our stairs or the dog might attack it…LOL.
This one cannot fall down the stairs! The technology is so advanced.
I was very curious about the emptying issue since robo dusters look like they have a very small compartment but it’s a huge plus that they are self-emptying too!
