In the Spring, I shared with you my Spring Cleaning Routine and how I learned about the dangers of window covering cords. Today, I wanted to blog today about this because October is Window Covering Safety Month! Did you know that corded window coverings are one of the top five hidden hazards in American homes? I had no idea!
There are so many things that we parents have to worry about and this is one thing that we should not have to worry about. I encourage everyone to take a little time and check out the Window Covering Safety Council (WCSC) website; their purpose is to educate consumers about window covering cord safety. Make sure you walk around your home and check to see if you have corded window coverings and replace them with cordless products. In addition, tasseled pull cords should be tucked away and out of the reach of children too.
It is really easy to know which window coverings are cordless…just look for the “Best for Kids” logo. These products are available at all major US retailers. The GREAT news is, a new(ish) US Safety Standard requires that all stock products be cordless or have inaccessible cords! However, there are still corded coverings currently in homes so it’s important to check your home for this.
I hope this helps someone make safety changes in their home and keep those little ones’ safe! If you want to read more about window coverings, please head to the WCSC’s website. Happy Fall Y’all!
