Two weeks ago, Judd and I took a vacation to Hilton Head Island for our 9th anniversary! This was our first trip just the two of us since our twins were babies…it was SO needed. We stayed at the beautiful Sonesta Resort Hilton Head Island. This was our second visit to Sonesta, you can read about our first trip with the kids here. We absolutely love this resort for so many reasons…it’s right on the beach, the pool is serene, the rooms are luxurious (softest bed and sheets we’ve ever slept on, mini bar, balcony with gorgeous views, Italian toiletries), activities going on throughout the day, breathtaking landscape (think hammocks, fire-pits, ponds with turtles, and palm tree galore), delicious restaurants and bars within the resort, it’s connected to bike trails where you can rent bikes and ride all around the island, and so much more! Here are a few photos of the breathtaking resort and a video I took of our room!
I should also mention how clean everything was at the Sonesta Resort Hilton Head Island! I’m a little OCD about cleanliness and our room was spotless!
We arrived on a Sunday afternoon and immediately dropped off our bags and headed to the pool. We were actually already wearing our swimsuits from the car ride, that’s how anxious we were for vacation to start..haha! We spent the entire afternoon here…napping on our chairs, cooling off in the pool, relaxing in the hot tub, reading a book, and of course drinking banana-coladas!
That night we went to One Hot Mama’s for dinner and oh it was good! They sat us outside and we listened to live music; it was so much fun! We started off with boneless chicken wings and I am still talking about these…they were the best wings we’ve ever had!! I got the BBQ Surf and Turf with mac and cheese and Judd got the Pitmaster’s Platter…absolutely delicious!! We both got the Chocolate Chip Pecan Pie with Bacon Graham Crust, it was out of this world good. We had not had a meal that good in ages, we will definitely be back to One Hot Mama’s!
We got back in time to watch the sunset on the beach at the Sonesta Resort Hilton Head Island. I love traveling with this guy!
The next morning, we woke up refreshed for the first time in YEARS! The combination of not having kids with us and the quiet, dark, and soft bed put us in a deep sleep! We immediately put on our swimsuit and headed down to the pool.
I swear we were there 5 minutes and Judd was already asleep in his chair…pretty sure he took 5 naps that day! Haha
I read a book while Judd napped and then it was time for lunch! We ordered lunch by the pool today and I had this cheese plate from our room…it was delicious!
I went and laid in a hammock for little bit…isn’t this surreal how pretty it is?
One more drink by the pool and then it was time to get ready for dinner.
I was craving seafood and after reading a million reviews, we ended up selecting Poseidon for dinner and all I have to say is WOW!! BEST SEAFOOD I’ve ever had! The atmosphere was super cute and relaxing as well!
And then for our entrees…Judd had the filet mignon and I had the King Crab Legs and I am still talking about it weeks later, everything was delicious! The pieces of crab that I pulled out were bigger than I’ve seen…I could eat that every day forever, haha!
Then we finished the meal off with Key Lime Pie and Chocolate Mousse Cake…both were incredible! If you’re in Hilton Head…Poseidon’s is a must for dinner! I’ve had a lot of seafood over the years and I’ve never had anything come close!
If you can’t tell, we did a lot of eating and relaxing on this trip! But…we also decided to do a little adventure! After dinner, we headed back to the Sonesta and got bikes for the evening! We rode all around HHI! We stopped by Harbor Town and a couple of golf courses. We got back right in time before it got dark!
On our final day, we decided we didn’t want to leave the resort at all!
We stayed by the pool the entire day, even ordered lunch at the pool again. I love Sonesta because you really never have to leave, it has everything you need!
We ordered more drinks and took more naps!
Around dinner time, we got all cleaned up and took a walk around the resort. Isn’t this landscape incredible?
We ate our last meal at Sonesta’s Heyward’s Restaurant. It was delicious!
I got the mushroom ravioli and Judd got the cheeseburger. Both were really yummy!
For dessert, we shared this amazing chocolate dessert…I can’t remember what it was called but I’m sure the servers will know if you ask them. It was a 10/10!
We walked to the beach for one final sunset and then it was time for bed!
This little trip was exactly what we needed! Relaxing and fun for just the two of us and the Sonesta Resort Hilton Head Island was the perfect place for it!
I have been in Hilton Head once. Great nature and tasty food. Salty dog cafe! I hope we will be back there one day.
It definitely is beautiful! And that food…so good!
I was last in Hilton Head in the summer of 2018. I would love to go again once the COVID crisis is behind us.
I hope you get to!
I’m so glad it was a great trip! We are hoping to visit Hilton Head in the summer time!
Thank you! I hope you have a great time!
I was just looking at Hotels in Hilton Head and got your blog email, booked the Sonesta! Looks so nice. Do the restaurants have carry out?
You’re going to have a great time!! They do, just give them a call. 🙂
I saved this cause we plan to go to Hilton Head Island in the fall. Do you recommend this more with kids or without since you’ve done both?
That’s a hard one…it really depends on what you want and need! Both trips were relaxing and fun! You can’t go wrong with either! There were plenty of families and plenty of couples.
Happy Anniversary! My wife and I loved to travel for our anniversary. We’d usually go to a nice beach destination then enjoy the sun, sand, and sea breeze. And the food, of course. It was our tradition but because of the pandemic, we had to put it on hold.
That’s how you do an anniversary. Hilton Head is a gorgeous area. Those crab legs were ginormous!
